The project was initiated by a compatibility issue between their VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) and Azure, which meant Stepstone needed to migrate to AVD (Azure Virtual Desktop). Stepstone approached HAYNE to support them with their transition where HAYNE will continue to support their Azure environment.
The move to AVD needed to be achieved in a short period of time as May ’24 was when their remote desktop solution would become incompatible.
Additional Challenges with their VDI
In addition to the compatibility issues, several Stepstone users experienced inconsistent access with their remote desktop solution, particularly during high traffic periods. This issue affected more than 30% of their user base.
Project Overview
Communication was effective throughout the project, and was facilitated by a dedicated Teams channel.
The project itself went smoothly, and the migration was achieved seamlessly, without any loss of functionality to Stepstone’s Controller or Planning Analytics solution.
Conclusion
Early indications from the AVD migration are promising, with significant enhancements in user access and system stability. Nick Waylett, Finance Systems Manager comments:
“The early signs are good, and we have yet to have any issues with user access following on from our first month-end using AVD. ”
We have been able to successfully migrate Stepstone to AVD without any issues. The move to AVD has also sped up access times to both IBM Controller and Planning Analytics.
Nathanael Riches, Finance Systems Manager comments:
”Access times improved dramatically, with some exceptional cases reporting that they have seen access to IBM Controller reduce from 20 minutes to about a minute and a half.”
Next Steps
We look forward to working with Stepstone on their next project upgrading their IBM Controller and Planning Analytics solutions to newer versions.
